In a Nut Shell . . .Texas We flew to Texas on Wednesday afternoon so we had some time to kill before heading to the track on Thursday morning. Firestopper, BK and myself went to eat at Denton, Texas’ finest barbecue smoke house . . . it was really good. After that we went back to the hotel to kill more time. The first thing on the agenda for Thursday was tech and we made it through again with no trouble . . . well at least not of our doing. The 59 truck’s tire guy ran his tire cart into our brand new truck. It damaged the left rear bumper, but luckily we had a great fabricator with us (BC17). After we got the truck repaired and through tech it was time for the first practice. Let me just say we were fast! Even as fast as it was, the truck was a little tight off the corner and we needed to adjust to fix that. We made a bunch of changes between practices and headed back out. We got the truck really comfortable for Beak . . .even on old tires. We bolted on a set of stickers, taped it up and let Beak go for it and he did. Next was to get ready for qualifying, but when we made our run we unfortunately lost two tenths from our practice speeds. We ended up qualifying 13th, which really wasn’t that bad especially since we had a fast truck. Friday was a long day. The garage did not open until 4:00 p.m. so there was some more “killing time” going on. Some of us headed to downtown Denton for burgers and ice cream. Then is was time to go to the track, but we were still early. Stopper and I decided to go through the Busch and Cup garages to see what was going on. The 99 guys were getting ready to qualify but unfortunately they didn’t make the race. We got the pits set up and everything ready to go. The race got started and David said he was tight off the corner from the get go. The race was pretty uneventful for us, not that we weren’t waiting for “something” to happen, but thank goodness it never did. The next thing I knew was we had about 20 to go, David was sitting in 10th and coming to the front. We wound up fifth, which seemed like a win after the past several races we have had. Just two more to go – now we are off to Phoenix. |
